Are You Born Again?
Are You Born Again?
By Dr. Frank Cimino
John 3:1-6 (NASB) "Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; (2) this man came to Him (Jesus) by night, and said to Him, Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him." (3) Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (4) Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he? (5) Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (6) That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." WOW! Jesus himself was the one who said that. As Christians believe that the Bible is the true Word of God, the words spoken by Jesus are important. The Bible speaks a lot of the Spirit. We know that in this context, the Bible is speaking of the Spirit Of God. 1 John 5:1 (NASB) "Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him." If being born by the Spirit (The Spirit of God) is being Born Again. Part of the process is believing that Jesus is the Christ (The anointed one of God). Believing that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God is a must. The Bible goes on to say in Rom 10:9-10 (NASB) "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; (10) for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation." I think were getting it! The Bible says that I must be Born again. To be Born Again I must believe in my heart that Jesus is The Christ. The fact that Jesus is The Christ means that He is Lord of All. In 1 Tim 6:15 "He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of Lords;" You have to admit, Jesus is "Big Time"! God the Father placed all things under His feet. Heb 2:8 (NASB) "THOU HAST PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him." Again... to be Born Again we must believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead. We must confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord. Everyone knows that Jesus is Lord the Son of the Living God. Does that mean that we are Born Again? Almost! Remember James 2:19 (NIV) "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder." Jesus must be YOUR LORD! What does that mean? In order for Jesus to be your Lord, you must recognize him as Lord. If you don?t acknowledge Jesus as your Lord, He isn't your Lord, and you don?t belong to Him. John 3:17-18 (NASB) "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him. 18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." So Jesus must be made Lord of our lives. We must believe in Jesus to be Born Again. John 14:6 (NASB) Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me." To be Born Again I must believe that Jesus is Lord of my life, I must believe in my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, and I must confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord of my life. You mean that I must tell someone that Jesus is the Lord of my life? Yes! Mat 10:32 (NASB) "Everyone therefore who shall confess Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven." I will write more on this in the future. Please call me if I can answer any of your questions. What a difference Jesus has made in my life. Peace, Happiness, Love, Joy, Patience, and most of all, freedom from the guilt and punishment of the past sin in my life. Rom 8:1 (NASB) "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." |
